Medievalism and Médiévalisme

For many years I have been wondering about the relationship between the English term Medievalism and its French and German equivalents. In German, Mediävalismus was rare before the 1990s and scholars used Mittelalter-Rezeption. In French, the vague médiévalisme coexisted with médiévisme. According to William Calin's review of

Médiévalisme. Modernité du Moyen Âge, ed. by Vincent Ferré (2010),

this volume contributes to a better understanding of these concepts. It seems that issues of cultural translation and conceptual history continue to fascinate me most when thinking and writing about the ongoing reception of medievalia in postmedieval times. READ the REVIEW @ MEDIEVALLY SPEAKING.
